Extinguishing A Fire 101

9/27/2019 (Permalink)

When your home or business is on fire, there is only one thing top of mind, PUT THE FIRE OUT! In your business you are required to have a fire extinguisher and it is a good idea to have one in your home too. A fire extinguisher can save your home or business from suffering major damages. Below are the steps on how to properly use a fire extinguisher to put out a fire.

  1. PULL--Pull the pin that will break the tamper seal
  2. AIM--When aiming, point the nozzle or hose low. Go for the base of the fire.

NOTE--Do not touch the plastic discharge horn on CO2 extinguishers. It can damage your skin due to extreme heat.

  1. SQUEEZE—Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent.
  2. SWEEP—While extinguishing the fire, sweep from side to side at the base of the fire until it is out.

If you are not confident in your ability to perform this task, evacuate immediately and call 911!
