Flood Watch vs Flood Warning

10/11/2018 (Permalink)

This neighborhood had a tremendous amount of water, basically leaving the houses half way under water

You heard it right ladies and gentleman, hurricane season is now in full affect. And that means that there will be a very large amount of rainfall in your area. Flooding is a typical after affect from massive rainfall so it is good to be aware and ready for what is coming. Listen to the news or radio and watch for a flood watch and a flood warning. But what do those mean?

Flood Watch

This is issued before a flood warning. This means that the area you are in is at risk of major floods. It is not guaranteed, but it is better to be safe than sorry and prepare your family and home for a flood.

Flood Warning

If you ever see a flood warning, this means that a flood is basically in the works or it is actually happening. If this is issued by the NWS, the best thing to do is not wait to see how it is and evacuate before it is too late.

You might see other kinds of alerts like Flash Flood Warnings, Hurricane Watch, Hurricane Warning, etc. It is important to know what the situation is so stay updated on the latest news.

Unfortunately, you cannot take your home or business with you when you evacuate so make sure you have someone in mind that will come repair and restore and damages caused to your home or business. Here at SERVPRO we will restore your home and make it "Like it never even happened."
